Student Trustees: Voting NOW OPEN


Voting is now open for Student Trustees at http://vote.dsu.org.uk/ Student Trustees are brand new for DSU and are going to be making some important decisions over the coming year, so make sure you login and cast your vote.


Following a review of governance, DSU is to become a registered charity, and needs four dedicated and experienced individuals to join the Union’s Trustee Board as co-opted (non student) trustees. The closing date for applications has been moved to 12th June at 5pm.  More info....

Environment Week!

This week is Environment Week and there's absolutely loads going on, including a plastic bad amnesty on friday  - bring along a plastic bag to the library and exchange it for a recyclable on friday afternoon; Debate about nuclear power; litterpick along the riverbanks on Saturday and FREE Ben and Jerry's Ice cream at Planet of Sound. North Road Survey Results:


Here is a break down of the results from the safety survey:

54.7% do not feel safe on NorAth Road while alone at night.

58.2% said that they would feel intimidated by the presence of a strip club.

Stop the Traffik Campaign:

5th -9th November 

People trafficking is the fastest growing form of international crime. Men, women and children are trafficked across borders at a rate of 1 every minute.

This week DSU and SPEAK are joining the national Stop the Traffik campaign. For more details of what's going on throughout the week check out the "Campaigns" section above. 

New Degree Parchments!

The University wants your opinion on the design used for degree parchments. To have your say, log on to DUO and take the Parchment Survey. The survey will be open until Sunday 11th November. The new style parchments can be viewed through DUO, and are also on display in DSU Reception and the Student Services Office, Holliday Building, Queen's Campus. Make sure you have your say!! Once a decision has been made the new parchments will be used from January 2008.

Durham Photo Soc: 4th of November

One day, One city, One disposable camera.Take the day to run/walk/meander around Newcastle, in groups or on your own filling your disposable camera with masterpieces. Everyone is welcome - no special equipment is required! All you need to bring is yourself, we provide you with a fetching photo-marathon t-shirt, avdisposable camera and transport to and from Newcastle.

Stand Up, Speak OUT against poverty

Durham Students helped break a world record!! Over 38.8 million people, in 110 countries broke the Guinness World Record – set last year at 23.5 million - for the largest number of people to “STAND UP AGAINST POVERTY” in 24 hours.

We joined with other north-eastern universities, standing on the Millenuim Bridge in Newcastle, all dressed in white.
