About DSU Welfare

Your time at Durham is bound to be fantastic and will hopefully be problem free. This isn't to say that you won't face a number of challenges that you have not come across before however. DSU and the University are aware of the issues that can arise for students and provide a number of services that offer the support and guidance to help you overcome any difficulties.

These services include:

• DSU Advice Centre: 0191 33(4 1775)
• Accommodation Office: 0191 33(4 1770)
• DSU Education and Welfare Officer
• Nightline
• College tutors
• Advice, Guidance and Materials for College Welfare Committees
• University Counselling Service
• University Health Centre
• Services for Students with Disabilities
• Hate Crime Reporting Centre

The Sources of Advice section gives more specific information about the roles of each of these services and how to contact them. Between them they cover everything including academic issues, financial problems, accommodation, and general well-being.

The most important thing is that you take advantage of the support services that are available. The Advice Centre is free, confidential, impartial and friendly and the door is always open. It is situated on Level A of Dunelm House (DSU). My office is in the advice centre so please feel free to drop-in if you need anything.

This is your university experience, and we are here to ensure it is as safe, secure and enjoyable as possible.
