Description

Founded in 2007, the Durham University Swing Society aims to pursue the exciting culture of social dancing through the medium of Lindy Hop. Originating in 1930s New York, Lindy Hop is a fusion of jazz, tap and Charleston and is currently experiencing a world-wide revival in culture. DUSS aims to promote this through weekly informal dance workshops, enabling us to hold dance parties which will give everyone a chance to dress up, sip cocktails and dance to live jazz. DUSS intends to provide its members with regular social events including meals, trips to jazz festivals, 1940s-style balls, and the opportunity for those interested to take part in intervarsity competitions. Beginners are welcome throughout the year and our professional instructors welcome people of all abilities so there is no need to have danced before. Come and talk to us at the Freshers’ Fair to find out more.
