Description

Shorinji Kempo is a dynamic Japanese martial art, firmly rooted in the Zen tradition of buddhism. Its first principles are: self-defence, spiritual growth and a healthy body. The training of Shorinji Kempo aims to develop the potential of the individual and create a balanced human being both physically and mentally. Its intentions are to instil a student with the confidence needed to stand up for their ideals and the ability to defend their position. In this way they can help others and thereby benefit society as a whole. Shorinji Kempo teaches effective self-defence utilising both hard and soft techniques – Goho and Juho. This creates a system of self defence built on technique rather than physical strength, meaning a smaller defender can overcome a larger attacker. Seiho [a therapeutic massage system to relax the muscles and relieve tension] and Zazen meditation [to calm the mind] are also taught.
