Description
The History of Art Society was set up in 2004 upon realisation that, whilst in Durham, we missed the cultural escapades that we enjoy out of term time. Fortnightly we host an evening with an art historian who gives an informal talk on a specific era or movement. The event generally lasts for two hours, and will end around 9pm. There is no need for any previous knowledge of art, as the society aims to provide this. During the talk we provide wine and canapés, as the event is social as well as educational. As the evenings generally finish around 9pm, the talk can be a pre-going out dose of culture, or alternatively, a civilised excursion to talk to a few friendly faces and learn something about art. Last year we also held trips to Paris and the Bowes Museum, and did a tour of Durham Cathedral.
