DUCK

 DUCKL

Durham University Charities Kommittee was formed in the 1960's-70's to raise money for local, national and international charities. From that date onward we have carried out this important task with the help of our beloved Durham Students.

Last year we raised £320,000 for charity and this year we hope to push that figure up even higher. We raise this money through a myriad of events and opportunities. There is very little that DUCK do not do in order to raise cash. We send people to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro, get people to run marathons, hold massive parties in the student union and all else besides.

We are what in any other university is called RAG. We were banned from using the name a few decades ago after an ill advised but rather amusing RAG week stunt in which a student broke into the maximum security prison and left some Cadbury's milk tray on the Governor's desk. RAG week was transformed into DUCK, which turned into a year-round enterprise, and since then we have gone from strength to strength.

DUCK is governed by an elected exec with a sabbatical Manager who been elected to stay on and run DUCK full time. Each college also has a DUCK committee that represents the organisation in college and runs its own events .

DUCK can only do the things that we do because of the students who give their time and effort to help us run our events. If you want to help out in any way just e-mail duck.charities@durham.ac.uk and let us know, or contact your college rep. It's never too late to get involved...
