DSU Council is the main policy making body of Durham Students’ Union and it meets up at least 11 times each year.
All the officers and committees of DSU report to Council so that the student population knows what work all the other groups are doing. However, it is the policy setting of DSU Council that makes it such a powerful body.
To propose a motion for DSU Council, only two students have to submit the motion (to DSU Democracy Committee) for it to be voted upon at Council. The voting members are selected by the colleges (speak to your Senior College DSU Rep for more information) or the DSU Associations and the members representing these bodies will then vote on it and decide if it becomes policy or not.
