DSU is a democratic organisation that all students at Durham University are automatically a part of. All members of DSU are entitled to stand and vote in elections for the officer positions that DSU has. Societies and Student Development Officer
DSU has four Sabbatical officers who are students elected to work full-time for the Students’ Union for one year. These are:
President
DSU has a Trustee Board which is made up of 12 people. These 12 are ultimately legally and financially responsible for the actions of DSU. More information on the Trustee Board can be found here.
DSU Executive Committee is the group of officers that work on the campaign strategy of DSU and on raising awareness of their selective issues. Executive Committee information can be found here.
DSU Joint Committee is the group that contains the Sabbatical Officers of DSU and the Senior DSU Reps of each of the colleges JCR’s (or equivalent). More information on Joint Committee can be found here.
Other groups include the Equal Opportunities Committee, Education Committee, Welfare Committee and Livers’ Out Committee. For questions about these committees then speak to Nicky, DSU Education and Welfare Officer.
All of these committees report to DSU Council – the policy making body of the Union – which includes all the officers and representatives from different associations and colleges to vote. DSU Council information is available here and information about the entire policy making structure here.
DSU Democracy Committee is the group that co-ordinates the democratic side of DSU, ensuring that all meetings are scheduled and information is available. Information on Democracy Committee is available here.
